tischlein deck dich

“tischlein deck dich…” (engl.„Little Table – Spread Yourself“) is a table cloth embroidered in three colours which will make laying the table a playful activity and will help stimulate the communication of the company at table. The high quality tablecloth effectively combines three gastronomic cultures at one table. If you follow the respective threads you will find the right spot for each utensil. Whether this be the chop sticks for Japanese food or the kirsch glass for cheese fondue. The three threads each start at one of the seats. From there each one makes its own way across thetable. What starts as visibly sown on disappears little by little. However “tischlein deck dich…” is more than a playful aide. The tablecloth inspires the company at table to ask questions such as when did we last have fondue together? Quizzes develop: how many times does the blue thread touch a fork? How many chopsticks are embroidered on the cloth? “tischlein deck dich…” encourages communication around the table and contributes to cheerful conversations during a meal.

The tablecloth was nominated and exhibited at the Designbiennale 2006 in Lucerne.
It was also nominated for the designboom competition “house party” 2006.
